What is Hawaiian coffee?
Because of Kona’s extremely strict grading system, beans smaller than 16/64 of an inch in size, or with a slightly higher percentage of natural defects, may not legally be labeled “Kona.”
That said, these beans are still exceptional. They roast beautifully, are larger than the average bean grown outside Kona, and by their sheer volume and density, produce a richer, more complex flavor.
Why Kona-grown Hawaiian coffee is special
Our coffee is picked at full ripeness—sometimes even slightly overripe—leading to a much higher Brix sugar content. This natural sweetness creates a cup that is low in acid and bitterness, incredibly smooth, and easy on the stomach. Because we roast fresh on our farm, our beans also contain fewer mycotoxins, ensuring a cleaner, healthier cup.
For an everyday gourmet coffee at a price below standard Kona, Kona-grown Hawaiian coffee offers tremendous flavor and value.
Our roots in Kona
We are based in South Kona on the Big Island of Hawai‘i. As one of the first roasters in Kona in the early 1970s—nearly a decade before the U.S. “Third Wave” of coffee began—we were pioneers in focusing on craft roasting and flavor maximization.
A living ecosystem
Our farm is rooted in permaculture. We grow coffee intercropped with many other plants in a thriving, symbiotic ecosystem. This natural approach enhances soil health and directly influences the depth of flavor in every bean—producing coffee that is truly grown in harmony with paradise.
